What a pro-life president could do for black babies

In spite of the recently released statistics on African-American abortions, a pro-life leader sees prospects for a turnaround ahead.

The Centers for Disease Control report shows 35 percent of abortions in America terminated the lives of black preborn babies, even though African-American women only make up six percent of the population. Similarly, Hispanics, who make up less than 18 percent of the population, account for about 19 percent of abortions.

Pastor Clenard Childress, New Jersey director of the Life Education and Resource Network (LEARN), asserts his pro-life organization mourns for all babies who are aborted.

"But looking back on eight years of probably the most pro-abort administration in this country's history, the Obama administration walked basically lockstep with Planned Parenthood," Childress laments. "Planned Parenthood's objective is to target minorities, target the African-American community."

But the pastor says the outcome of the presidential election holds promise, because President-elect Trump is pro-life and has vowed to do away with the Johnson Amendment, which prohibits non-profits, including preachers, from speaking out in a political sort of way.

"That is going to be awesome," Childress chuckles. "It would be a challenge to those who have not said anything to now, you have no restraints. You are free to speak on the issues; you're free to speak politically on the issues. And I think we're just entering into a special time."

If Trump's administration proceeds on his promises, Childress believes the pro-life movement would be on the cusp of making great progress.
